I recently downgraded from vista to xp home...and now im wanting to upgrade to xp pro. whenever i try and do so i get the blue screen of death lol.

Does anyone know how to stop this from happening. So that i can install xp Pro properly??

thanks in advance

you should probably do a fresh install, what you've got going there sounds like a file system nightmare. Here's what you do, put the xp pro cd in and boot to the windows xp setup. It'll come up saying something like press enter to start windows xp setup, then it'll say something like repair the current instilation or press escape to install a fresh copy of windows, you want to install a fresh copy. Once you get the the place where it asks what partition you want to install on you'll probably want to format the current one that way nothing from the previous installs accidently carry's over to the new one. After that simply follow the on screen instructions, it's relatively straightforward. Post if you have any problems, need a different solution, or need something explained more extensivly.

yeah, ive tried to do that, but when i go to the partion selection menu, it is unable to find a partion.. and the setup fails....

Ive reinstalled vista and that installation went fine, i think ill just stick to vista, its not worth the time trying to go back to xp.

But now i have a small problem, when vista boots, it has 2 boot options.

1. Windows Setup
2. Windows Vista

Choice 1 is the xp installation, which it automatically tried to boot into. Ive tried to remove this, but it hasnt changed anything. Does anyone have any ideas how to remove this option?

Completely re-format the drive using the G-Parted program shown above and then do a fresh install, it sounds like a partition mess.

Go to msconfig, change vista as a default and set timing to 0.

or

You can go to System properties > Startup and recovery on the Advanced tab in the System startup click edit then remove unwanted os and save.
