Blurred images

Having just bought a new 17" TFT, I thought that all images - from all sources - would be as clear as they could be.

In fact, they weren't - so I bought a new video card and... still problems.

OK... why is that images from the internet (e.g. the title word "Google" on www.google.co.uk or even the logo to the left of "COMPUTER FORUM" above) are so blurred that the smaller ones are hardly recognisable, yet pictures sourced from my digital camera are crystal clear?

Surely, if the equipment can handle digital photos, an internet image/logo shouldn't be too hard? Interestingly, the monitor/system at the office displays both perfectly.

I've tried altering the screen resolution, refresh rate and anything else I can think of but no joy. Please help a confused man!

Thanks!

Richard

Sorry to post again so soon but I've just noticed that if I right-click any image from the internet and select "Show Original Image", it sorts the problem. Why is this and how can I get my setup to do it automatically?!

Thanks... again.

Richard

Forum link describes exact problem but solution appears ineffective. Disabled Automatic Image Resizing in IE and then added new value to Registry, as described but no joy, I'm afraid. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

sure you properly installed monitor and video card drivers? Try the ones you got with the itmes first, if same problem then switch to the newwst version form the manufacturer website.

Also, make sure in BIOS if you have onboard gfx that it is disabled. Sometimes it goofs up and produces very odd colors and whta not on the screen.

You might simply need to reformat after getting a new video card, but that's the last optin i would try.

Make sure you've properly uninstalled old monitor drivers and old videocard drivers. This usually requires a reboot.

If none of that works, then i would suspect a faulty monitor and you should get an exchange.

did you try the option image resize? you goto tools, internet options, Advanced, Under multimedia remove the check from "Enable Automatic Image Resizing". Also what DPI setting are you using? You find this out by right clicking on desktop, Properties, Settings, Advanced, You will see your DPI setting here... Default setting is 96DPI.

i wouldnt of thought it would be the monitor if pictires from his digicam work fine

yes it is odd...but other hardware does this as well.

some videocards work fine for desktops, but then when you try to play a DVD or a game they crap out and error. you'd never get errors or w/e in edesktop though.

just a guess of course, might be wrong.

Yes, tried the resize 'option', Blue. DPI is set to 96, so should be OK. No joy, though.

In the meantime, I had a thought...

Prior to having broadband, we used Onspeed - which is still operational. OnSpeed compresses data (particularly images) to enhance download speed and there is a setting to adjust (to effect a compromise) the compression/quality ratio.

I'm not at home now, so can't test the theory by a) reducing compression or b) disabling/removing OnSpeed completely but does this sound reasonable to you?

I've mailed TalkTalk (our broadband ISP) to ask if they compress and am told to expect an answer within 7 (yes, SEVEN) days. Helpful lot, eh?!

Thanks, again, folks.

Regards,

Richard

do you have another monitor you can test that will eliminate the problem being with monitor if it works. I seriously doubt its monitor if you can clear up images by showing picture with a right click though. Im not sure what would do this sounds really weird. when you installed mozilla did you say YES to transfter IE settings over to mozzilla if so uninstall and reinstall. it sounds like browser problems. you should also load defaults see if that helps

Like you, I don't think it's the monitor. Before changing the CRT for the new TFT, the images suffered similarly - but I put that down to an old grahics card and an even older CRT!

My money is on either a browser problem or maybe Onspeed having a detrimental effect on images, specifically. Either way, it's a pain.

Good of you to post.

Cheers.

That compression of the pictures does makes lots of sense to me. especially when you mentioned that you can right click em and choose original picture and get a good pic. I would think that this prob. is the problem so look into it as you said :). Good luck.

99% sorted, so can live with 1% (just!). Thanks for your help and suggestions, Folks!

I must admit that I could not live with 99% sorted :P. But I'm glad you got er more to your liking :).
