Bone yard treasures

Had a little extra time on my hands today, since I had to take a couple of CRTs to the recyclers so I decided to poke through the bone yard to see what I could find. My original intent was to see if I could snag an E-machines or Gateway mini-tower and came across this little gem that I picked up for $5:

A complete Cooler Master Centurion.

Granted it will need to be cleaned up and the power switch fixed, but it had all the parts, grilles, HDD rails and it was even in decent shape cosmetically.

So with a little spit and polish, I'll see what I can come up with.

Awesome price! Wish I had some PC graveyards around here.. not even sure where I'd look for such a thing.

Major components after clean up. I left the filter and the foam pieces behind the bay covers out since they needed to be washed:

Why this was done is a mystery but the wires to the main power switch were cut. The switch tests ok, so I would have no clue why someone would do this. No big deal as a simple solder job will fix it. What is a little disappointing is the top USB ports are damaged (the plastic part on the inside is broken). So I can either find a couple of ports to scrounge off of another USB board or I can make a cover for the outside to close the top panel holes.

I wish we had a pc/ electronic graveyard around here. it's useful for when you are dead broke, pick up a 42" plasma off ebay for $100 thats got a problem, and you need some matching capacaitors to fix it :P

Long story short my dad gets them for like 60 cents each at his work. Jaycar is awesome!

It still needs a 120 in the back and I decided not to paint the interior. I might do it at another time but for now I just wanted to get the thing restored and operational. Fan positions are 1 120 behind the front, 1 120 in back panel and a possible 80 in the side panel under the intake tube.
