[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

C: drive is nothing jst storage (slave drive on IDE1)
E: drive origional OS and the one i want to keep as well+ only working one(master drive on IDE1)
J: drive(J: drive cause i have many visual drives(deamon tools) use 2 have half a OS but deleted it but still comes up on boot want 2 get rid of (master drive on IDE2)
D: drive CD rom (slave on IDE2)

all OS are windows xp sp2

.. ok i think u no less than me ... if u delete it u jst pull out ur hdd and put it in another computer and write another boot file there are other ways like boot dos. then edit it in there if u delete thou thats not my problem here and yes it does boot windows and its not read only..+ if it was u change it so its not read only thou its not origionally, it is hidden thou.

firstly, please write proper sentences, i found it hard to understand your point

does the machine boot to the correct os at the moment

ha ha, I didn't realize that it was that hard to read. I'm trying to change the boot.ini file so theres no duel booting anymore, because at the moment there are 2 boot options 1 works the other doesn't.

i see only one option in the boot ini you gave in post #1
what does the boot menu options say when you boot up and which one works

yes that what i thought too. from what i remember

it says (the option's)

-'Microsoft Windows XP Professional'(as a bootable option)
-'/noexecute=optin /fastdetect'(that has somehow become a bootable option but never tryed booting it)
'Windows (default)'(is an bootable option and this is the one that doesnt work)

and that one that i posted first is the boot file i'm using at the moment, even dubble checked it.

ok i seem 2 fix the problem i chaned from this
------------------------------------------------------------------------
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

------------------------------------------------------------------------
to
------------------------------------------------------------------------
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
------------------------------------------------------------------------

if u cant spot it i changed the "disk(1)" to "disk(0)"

and everything seem 2 go back 2 normal like no more duel booting or duel booting screen automaticly boots into my normal os now im happy
