Im trying to install Windows Vista on my computer and and i put the cd in and i reboot my computer it starts up regulary with press DEL and F8 and i can access those so i know my keyboard works. then it says press any key to boot from CD. put when i press the buttons nothing happens my computer just starts up.

Why wont it boot from CD. I know my keyboard is working unless it just stops after the DEL and F8 part. any help would be great. :)

You still need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html while being advised to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html with regards to starting two identical threads on the same subject.

What type of keyboard do you currently have? If you are using a cordless or simply usb type you may be seeing problems until Windows loads the needed drivers/software especially on programmable models. Your first step here should be to enter the bios setup program when first turning the system on in order to change the boot device order maybe even disable the hard drive temporarily to force the system to boot from the optical drive you have the installation disk in.

Sometimes it takes that to get the system to boot from an install cd rather then loading the current OS too fast. Once the installer loads you may run into another problem where an old style corded model keyboard is needed to answer the F8 license agreement in order for the installation to continue. It helps to have a cheap $5-10 model lying around to get through that problem. Your main concern so far however is the boot order and having a working optical drive and good ide cable as well.

I have a regular USB keyboard i have a wireless also i can access the DEL and i did what you said still nothing but i cnat access the F8 and maybe thats what i need. any more advice

The combination of a usb and wireless model is probably your main concern there. The Microsoft Media Pro won't even work upon needing the F8 when getting the installer ready to run. That comes with the PS2 adapter. Yet the F8 boot menu for the board as well as the Windows F8 boot menu can be both be brought up without problems.

The first thing there is to unplug the wireless first. What make and model is the usb model you have there? If that has the ps2 adapter try plugging it in with that to see if you get anywhere rather then a usb port. The best method of course is to pick up a cheap $5-$10 standard 101 keyboard until you get past the first system restart when installing Windows where the setup files have already been copied to the drive.

After the desktop comes up the first time and you reboot to see the softwares for those two finish installing shut it down then to plug the usb model back in to complete the remaining driver and program installations. I know it's a pain trying to work with cheapies after growing accustomed to having a favored one in use for an extended period of time. But you get your system running again regardless.
