Boot manager missing

Guys,

I recently had to format the HDD of a small notebook/notepad computer I have due to viral infections, unfortunately when I did I had to remove the OS as well,
just before the silly season started I thought I would start using it again but all I get is bootmgr missing, due to it's size it does NOT have a built in CD/DVD although I do have an external one, but it's not getting that far.

I have tried changing the BIOS to read from the external HDD with Windows 7 and from the Flash drive with Ubuntu, neither has worked.

I have tried reading what to do on another computer, but every thing seemed reliant on having an internal CD/DVD.

Have you guys got any thoughts????

Thanks

Don't mess with the boot order, but try booting to another drive temporarily (usually a key like F12 to view boot list on POST). Then select the drive you want to boot to.
