Boot/Power problems

Yesterday when i returned to my pc i noticed the screen had gone into standby, the pc was still on however. I tried num lock this turned on and off as normal but there was no signal going to the monitor, i decided to hold in the power button of the base unit and shut it down.

When i tried to turn it back on however nothing happened i reseated all the cables and cards then tried again and still nothing happened, then after about 5 mins the MOBO light, fans and case lights all came on, the PC still won't boot and there doesn't appear to be any power getting through to the DVD drive as it does not open. The only way of turning it off is by disconnecting the power lead.

Does anyone have any ideas on this I'm hoping it's a faulty PSU as replacing MOBO/CPU will be expensive.

excellent help...

anyway, did you make sure the switch is not off on the cak of the case... and your little brother did not unplug the monitor cable?

There was no interference from anyone else i literally left my desk for 30 seconds, I have now swapped the PSU for a 550W but am still having the same problems altho now only the MOBO light comes on and nothing else. I have taken the case apart and traced all the leads to the power switch these are all fine.

I am having the same exact problem i think. how do you reset your bios?

Usually a jumper by the battery, move it from pin's 1-2 to pin's 2-3 (or vise versa depending) and remove the battery for ~1 minute and it will reset. When you turn your machine on it will say "CPU changed or unworkable" or it may not. You will however need to go back into the BIOS and reset your settings to what you had them at if you had it OC'ed or setup a special way. If not just go into the BIOS and go straight to save settings.

Something that doesnt make sense but may help: unplug everything and put it back together :)

For those that are interested I have now managed to resolve the problem, It was my MOBO that was at fault it appears that there must of been a power surge and it has shorted at some point although there are no visible signs of this. At least its still under warranty.

Thanks for your help tho guys.
