boot Ubuntu (or other distro) off usb?

is it possible to run Ubuntu(or other distro) off a usb (preferred). i don't really know what i want because i'm a newbie :o :P

Yes. If you go to Ubuntu's website you'll see a download for the CD image. Download it, and burn the image to a CD. Boot the LiveCD and install on a USB device. (A bit more complex then that, but you get the idea)

so i download the normal installer than choose the usb as my directory?

thanks anyway and what distro might you choose? mandriva or Ubuntu?:confused::D:o

Most will argue that .deb packages are better than .rpm , but in the end it's still your ballpark. Ubuntu blows pretty much every distribution out of the water in terms of wide support, so keep that in mind. If you're new to Linux, I'd suggest Ubuntu purely on how big the support group is. :cool: If you got enough space, you can always tri-boot. :P
