Boot Up Freezes

Hi,

We had a power cut a few hours ago and I was on my laptop.
I turned it back on and the Bootup thing comes up at the start, with the fan and then switches to the next screen and its black and the fan just switches off and stays on a black screen with a small flashing line thing in the top left corner.

Any ideas whats causing this?
 
yeh I was on it for about an hour with it plugged in to the power, then the power went off and it just restarted and its like I said above.
 
Could be the hard drive..... has crashed and won't boot.

Have you tried putting the windows disk in and booting up of the disk and see if that will work - then we can determine what the problem will be.
