booting issue

So for my brother's birthday, my dad and I got my brother a cor 2 duo at 3ghz, 2GB of OCZ DDR2 800mhz Platinum RAM, and this motherboard http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=I69-2168

He said he hooked everything up right and he checked the BIOS and it recognizes his hard drive. But when he tries to go past the BIOS and boot into Windows it just goes to a black screen with a blinking underscore ( _ ) in the top left corner. I'm thinking we might have to reinstall windows on it, something was hooked up wrong, or else one of the parts is bad.

On a side note, the processor is 45nm, but it came as a combo with the motherboard, so I don't think they would have (definitely should have) sold me a combo that won't work together.

Thoughts, opinions, facts? Any help will be appreciated.

Make sure he has the hard drive set to the main boot.I had a similar problem when I installed my new Motherboard until I figured out that I needed to put my hard drive as they main boot source!

1st thing to make sure your hrd drive is okay, if you using xp try boot through a CD installer. and do the recovery console. if the system hang up. maybe your hard drive is trouble

G35 may need a BIOS/CMOS update to support 45nms. Check your version.

Yeah it came with a thing that mentioned a possible need for a BIOS update.

Well I think we figured out the issue. I tried booting up Linux to check if it was just the OS, but it still didn't work. So I threw in my SATA drive and it booted up. Now we just have to wait for my brother to get his IDE to SATA adapter and we should be set.

Thanks for the input everyone.
