Bootmgr is missing!

I've searched for this topic and a few came up but it didn't help me. My brother completely messed up the C drive and formatted everything. All of vista is gone and I can't access my computer. When I try to boot from the XP disc, it should have showed a 'press a key to continue' but it didn't. It skips that part and tells me that bootmgr is missing.

The only thing I have left in the HDD is my D drive with some games on it. How can I fix this?

(I don't have a vista CD btw)

Have you checked the BIOS to see if the CD drive is listed before the harddrive in the boot order?

You might have to hit f8 or del or some other button repeatedly upon startup and bring up the BIOS. From there you should be able to select your cd drive as the primary and install windows xp.

Keep your brother off your pc!

EDIT: Cromewell beat me to it.

Yeah, I've made the CD first to boot in the BIOS, should have made that clearer in my first post.

Any other suggestions?

well if for some reason you cant boot to your cd rom, and since your on here its safe to presume you have access to another computer.... you could make a win98bootdisk (one of technology's greatest inventions), and from there you have many options...
1) try and run the cd directly from there (you will have to check the autoexec on the cd for confermation however im pretty sure the winnt.exe in the i386 folder is the setup process to get the ball rolling)

2)if that dosent work you can copy the winxp disk to your main hard drive (our your D drive if there is enough space) then do the same thing from the hard dive

or if the boot disk doesnt work you can use the comp you are on now and make a small partition on the hard drive on the busted compy to hold the cd then just boot from the harddrive.

a few options to try

Good luck!
