BootMGR Issue

OKay Customer gives me laptop after power outtage and now they get BSOD. I boot off windows 7 disc to repair the OS to rebuild MGR and MBR and so on, but it will NOT load, either crashes or says NO os installed.

So I took hdd OUT and hooked to my PC and tried to format it, and rebuild that way but my windows states Unable to format/assign drive letter.

Then I tried using windows XP disc to get to cmd but once it gets to Loading windows on intial boot from cd, BSOD.

Any tips on how to get this to install since MBR/bootmgr is trashed and there is NO os on HDD

I did a dBan run and it was saying 3500hrs + to complete a 3 pass write. I canceled that and since doing that, ive gotten lil further in the installation of windows and i can move the mouse. Im starting to think the customer was lying about power outtage and seriously did something else to this drive.

you could try running MHDD to test the access times of each sector of the drive. Sounds like you might have a bad disk.

There probably was an OS installed but when there was a power outage, it can destroy the mbr and lose partition data. What I would do is test the drive with the drive manufacturers disk diagnostic utility. But most likely its a shot drive. What brand of drive is it?

Its a WD 750gb scorpio blue. Ive put windows 7 onto usb to do it and it just hands at copying windows files 0% and never moves. I dont see HDD activity or anything. IM going to try use partition doctor data program as it has possibility to rebuild mbr.

Create a USB bootable Ubuntu for trial. Boot into that and you can access the files off the hdd and copy files over on the network etc... then reinstall.

I have the hdd hooked to my computer now sata to usb 3.0 and its spinning but theres nothing happening when i try to format it. Just states Healthy active Raw partition. I dont feel the head moving at all and making me believe it died.

I told customer best just order new HDD since its only $45 for same one and i can reinstall windows on a fresh hard drive.

downloaded and this is waht i get, It wont do anything for the 750gb drive im working on

looks like i got it by right clicking drive, but stating 20hours for diagnostic scan, Not sure if thats normal time or means drive is dead in a sense

Connected by USB?

I would reinstall the drive via sata, then access the drive via Ubuntu. Back up files and then reinstall windows on it or new drive.

Do not connect via usb. Connect to sata port and then retry. Once its connected, then highlight drive and then click on the icon up top where it says click to run test.
