Bootup Error?

I've been having problems with my desktop since back around June. Now, what's been happening since then is whenever I boot up the desktop, it goes directly to the blue screen. A few times though, when the computer somehow made it to the login screen and I was able to log in, my wallpaper was completely...disfigured? It's hard to explain what the picture looked like, but it was just messed up completely. Now, this is what it says on the blue screen:
Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x00000116 (0x87A0A510, 0x8DE29EB0, 0x00000000, 0x00000002)

I think it's the graphics hardware that's screwed up. Can anyone help me out and tell me what I should do to fix it? My parents tried calling HP about it, it's the HP m9040n model. It was just a year and a half old when it got messed up, and we didn't get a long warranty with it.

Boot to safe mode and uninstall your video driver software. Then download the latest drivers from nvidia for your specifec model of video card.

Sorry, this is really late reply. But, I'm not too well with software and the like. How would I find and uninstall the driver?

I just tried to get into safe mode. The problem is that the OS seemingly cannot load completely, and asks for the computer to restart in its normal mode first. After trying to start it in its default mode, the screen turns black after the first initial loadup page. What should I do?

I haddd this problem, did you install some sort of image mounting program? alcohol 120 or something? You can see your mouse but nothing appears, everything is black right?

No, I didn't download something like that. And not even my mouse appears. The screen is simply black if I proceed to boot up the system normally. And, like I said, if I boot it in safe mode, the moniter shows the normal 'SAFE MODE' text on the four corners of the desktop. However, that is all that is shown. The rest is simply an error message stating that the system couldn't be completely loaded in safe mode, and must be booted in its default mode first.

Haha sorry!:P Would YOU by any chance have any ideas that could help me out? My parents spent $1200 on it, and aren't very willing to spend that much again on a new computer after this one.
