I found an old keyboard in my basement, and an idea struck me. The keys will be removed and painted all black. Inspiration. I am going to the store soon to get more paint, and I was thinking satin black would be the best choice, as gloss wouldn't have a good texture for use, and matte shows too many imperfections in my less than perfect methods ;) .

Note: This is a prototype/test keyboard, and if it comes out nicely, I will paint my current (and favorite) keyboard.

eh? the keys stick, the spacebar doesnt move, and i'm missing the "." on the right numpad. meh.

are you going to custom paint the keyboard ?..then make sure you get the keys back to their proper place, lol, when u think you're pressing shift you're pressingf12..lol
 
As far as I've seen the keys are pretty much interchangeable. Minus the specialty keys like shift, enter, caps, etc. but those are wider and can easily be recognized with their respective positions.
 
i hope u know how to touch type:)

and if i was going to paint it why not paint it somthing interesting?? like fluro pink or that chameleon colour... blacks the colour of nearly every keyboard!:D
 
or before u put all the keys back on go to ur local car shop and buy some of that really thin electric neon wire they use in car dashes and trim and run it around the inside of the keyboard.. hook it up to a wall plug and ull have a pimped out keyboard:P would look cool at night:D

I'm not a huge fan of the finished look to be honest. Looks too, bah? And as for the keys sticking, did you stick anything in the key sockets on the keyboard before spraying it like cotton wool or screwed up paper etc to stop any paint getting in there and causing any friction points when you place the keys back in and press them?

looking back i definitely sped through that part and thats exactly what i didnt do. but this was just for fun and after it all i dont really like the texture, so i'm sticking with my good board for now. but next time i get $100 to burn, i'm definitely getting a das keyboard. :D
 
Good thing you tested it on an old keyboard before doing it on your main one eh? :). I'd bare that in mind though if you do plan on doing this again. Or you could just buy a black keyboard and wear the key markings away with a buffer or something :p.
