Bought a used computer with problems

I got a new computer off craiglist for very cheap. The reason why it was so cheap is because someone put a crappy bootleg version of windows on it and didnt activate the product. Now the computer is completely locked. I bought another version of windows from Walmart and now I put the cd in and restarted the computer and kept hitting F12 until the Boot from CD Screen came up. It says press any key to boot from cd... problem is when it goes to this screen the computer some how disables my keyboard and i can not hit any keys. (I confirmed this by pressing Caps Lock to see if the caps lock comes on and it doesnt). Then when that screen disapears the keyboard magically starts to work again..

Any input?
thanks

Are you using a USB keyboard? If so make sure USB keyboard support is enabled in the bios.

I'd do that. Sounds like it could be the problem, typically you can still get into BIOS with the keyboard, but oftentimes not the Boot Menu.

Worse case scenerio you can get an enclosure and format the hard drive from another computer (if you have one available)

No, but I do have a USB keyboard and I tried that as well and it does not work either. So neither style keyboards work.

I get into the BIOS screen and there is no option to boot from the CD ROM instead of the HD first.

A PS/2 keyboard is always a nice thing to have around. With as many USB keyboard used now it baffles me why they still dont have USB keyboard support enabled by default on new boards. Old boards I understand.

What kind of computer is this, model number, or if its not a Dell/HP or something what is the motherboard make and model.
