Bought an Apple, question...

OK, so I was at the thrift store the other day and happened to see an Apple Power Mac G4 MDD. There was a post-it note on the front that said "bad power supply", but it was only $50, and I couldn't pass it up. When I got home, I hooked it up to a monitor and fired it up, and the screen went white, then all it showed was a tiny folder in the center of the screen, that alternates between a question mark and the 2-face design. What does that mean?

No bootable drive
Or possibly just no hard drive inside

Also "Bought an Apple, question..." is really not very descriptive, you'd get more responses with a specific relevant, brief, description ie Apple Mac will not startup, or similar

Well you can't have an OS installed if no harddrive is present. I'd say crack it open and take a look.

No shit sherlock lol, but he doesnt stay that there isnt a hard drive, a different person suggested maybe there was no hdd, i just suggested maybe there was but no os is installed.

But yea open it up and see if there is one

The folder with the flashing question mark means it cannot find bootable material. So the HD could be blank, or the OS on it could be corrupted, so on and so on.

Either way for $50 that is a nice find. They still sell for several hundred dollars.
