Under your ideaology nothing would get done. There are lots of things that you cant resell, you try selling a gun that you bought.
"If i pay to own something, it's mine."
Yes if you god damn pay for xp then you can have it, unfortunatly xp source code is probably a few billion pounds, if you cant bloody afford that then xp will kindly sell you a licence to use it on one machine for about $80. The friggin choice is up to you.
My dad has sold guns he has purchased...very easy. Pawn shops will take them (or at least they used to) Individual buyers are easy to find.
Again, I chose neither of those 2 offersyou said. M$ doesn't get $0.01 from me.

a) Not all linux version are free
b) If you knew about linux then you'd understand how it was made, and wouldn't come up with silly remarks like "someone coded that and spent years working on it"
I can't think of any version of Linux that could be used by a HOME user which isn't free. There's plenty of options for a free OS.
I didn't mean an individual person sat and wrote out Linux lol. After re-reading it i see that's what it sounds like.

a) Again if you knew what you were talking about you'd know that you'd have to sell the whole machine not just the HDD
b) No it not like selling your car for the tire you dont need, its like selling your driving licence because you dont want to drive anymore - simply put YOU CAN'T.
Which explains very straight-forwardly why i don't prefer M$.

There not all free, especially the corporate ones, so dont go all high and mightly about linux being anti-capitalist on me.
Again, i'm talking about HOME use here. Corporate copies of Linux aren't exactly beneficial for a home user. Many versions of Linux that can be used at home are free. To make it more clear, i'll say MANY distros are free, an not ALL. Mis-speak on my part.

Well the simply fact of the matter is that from a desktop perspective linux is incredibly non user freindly. Its getting better, but it is no where near as gui as xp, and its predecessors. And compatibility is way lower than xp. And the reason is, its not aimed at that market!
Which i agree with, i openly admitted to not being able to use Linux easily myself. Lookup my "Linux Help" thread(s). But, with a little work and experience, Linux turns into a great OS that many can learn. Compatibility is growing, especially in the gaming area.

So if your saying how do they make an os that stacks upto xp for the retail market - simple .... they dont
Not what i was asking. I wanted to know how it was developed and made possible...and our end has to pay nothing? Everyone keeps making fun of me bcuz' someone suppsoedly has to pay in the end...but I never payed for anything from Linux. How do they do it?

a)well i could make a workable car from some scrap and an old engine block, and wouldn't have to pay anybody. But it wouldn't be as good as a my accorde (honda)
b)And another one who doesn't know linux origins
Why wouldn't it be as good? With enough time and knowledge i bet you could put together an awesome car. I know many people who build cars from scrap/shells in their garage, and after a few years on the project they are NICE.

If that was all you'd said then people would have been fine.
I'll Revise what I said then. It's all I'm saying in the end. I prefer Linux, and don't adore M$.
