Boycott Microsoft!

Under your ideaology nothing would get done. There are lots of things that you cant resell, you try selling a gun that you bought.
"If i pay to own something, it's mine."
Yes if you god damn pay for xp then you can have it, unfortunatly xp source code is probably a few billion pounds, if you cant bloody afford that then xp will kindly sell you a licence to use it on one machine for about $80. The friggin choice is up to you.

My dad has sold guns he has purchased...very easy. Pawn shops will take them (or at least they used to) Individual buyers are easy to find.

Again, I chose neither of those 2 offersyou said. M$ doesn't get $0.01 from me.

a) Not all linux version are free
b) If you knew about linux then you'd understand how it was made, and wouldn't come up with silly remarks like "someone coded that and spent years working on it"

I can't think of any version of Linux that could be used by a HOME user which isn't free. There's plenty of options for a free OS.
I didn't mean an individual person sat and wrote out Linux lol. After re-reading it i see that's what it sounds like.

a) Again if you knew what you were talking about you'd know that you'd have to sell the whole machine not just the HDD
b) No it not like selling your car for the tire you dont need, its like selling your driving licence because you dont want to drive anymore - simply put YOU CAN'T.

Which explains very straight-forwardly why i don't prefer M$.

There not all free, especially the corporate ones, so dont go all high and mightly about linux being anti-capitalist on me.

Again, i'm talking about HOME use here. Corporate copies of Linux aren't exactly beneficial for a home user. Many versions of Linux that can be used at home are free. To make it more clear, i'll say MANY distros are free, an not ALL. Mis-speak on my part.

Well the simply fact of the matter is that from a desktop perspective linux is incredibly non user freindly. Its getting better, but it is no where near as gui as xp, and its predecessors. And compatibility is way lower than xp. And the reason is, its not aimed at that market!

Which i agree with, i openly admitted to not being able to use Linux easily myself. Lookup my "Linux Help" thread(s). But, with a little work and experience, Linux turns into a great OS that many can learn. Compatibility is growing, especially in the gaming area.

apj101 said:
So if your saying how do they make an os that stacks upto xp for the retail market - simple .... they dont

Not what i was asking. I wanted to know how it was developed and made possible...and our end has to pay nothing? Everyone keeps making fun of me bcuz' someone suppsoedly has to pay in the end...but I never payed for anything from Linux. How do they do it?

apj101 said:
a)well i could make a workable car from some scrap and an old engine block, and wouldn't have to pay anybody. But it wouldn't be as good as a my accorde (honda)
b)And another one who doesn't know linux origins

Why wouldn't it be as good? With enough time and knowledge i bet you could put together an awesome car. I know many people who build cars from scrap/shells in their garage, and after a few years on the project they are NICE.

If that was all you'd said then people would have been fine.

I'll Revise what I said then. It's all I'm saying in the end. I prefer Linux, and don't adore M$.

Again, I chose neither of those 2 offersyou said. M$ doesn't get $0.01 from me.
if you understand then why were you complaining about it??

I can't think of any version of Linux that could be used by a HOME user which isn't free
Yeah but how many do you really know, and dont just go running off to google and hash out a huge list
And who said we were restricted to home users, and it depends whos home

After re-reading it i see that's what it sounds like.
lol indeed

Which explains very straight-forwardly why i don't prefer M$.
No it doesn't explains the idea of the licence, the reason you dont prefer M$ is goes you dont have a clue what your talking about, hence you whole "If i pay to own something, it's mine." crap

but I never payed for anything from Linux. How do they do it?
as i said, if you knew how it was made then you'd not ask such a silly question

To make it more clear, i'll say MANY distros are free, an not ALL. Mis-speak on my part.
thats fine

Compatibility is growing, especially in the gaming area.
Compatibility on gaming is probably the slowest area to grow in linux

Why wouldn't it be as good? With enough time and knowledge i bet you could put together an awesome car. I know many people who build cars from scrap/shells in their garage, and after a few years on the project they are NICE.
yeah, but kit cars cost a fortune and defeat your whole "not paying anyone idea" and cars from scap, will always be.... a car made from scrap

I'll Revise what I said then. It's all I'm saying in the end. I prefer Linux, and don't adore M$.
he he, lets see if thats the end or not :) :)

Its impossible to boycott Microsoft. What else would people turn to. Its taken all this time for everyone (PC newbies) to get used to Microsoft. Newbies would fall at the first hurdle if they switched to Linux or another operating system. Windows is famed for its user friendliness.
But yes they do overcharge...even students.

Don't just trash talk me, I like windows and I use it, but this is just unacceptable
Suppose for a second that it is unacceptable. Then why do the American people let stupid laws like DMCA come to pass?

Not incapable, just don't prefer to.
I thought you werent 16 anymore? ;)

Some people need to grow up.
some?

Woh, he has a problem, quite passionate isnt he???? Yes i do think they may have taken the anti piracy/acivation thing a bit too far, but the software is damn good, ive yet to seee OpenOffice.org or even another costly competitor compare to the powers or Microsoft Office2003 Pro.
At least with MS software you can choose to accept the agreement after you have a chance to read it ... unlike say HL2 where you've already agreed to it well before you even get the chance to click any buttons

YOU HAVE TO PAY A MONTHLY FEE to use any of the TV features
Well why not boycott TV? Like i mean you pay a monthly fee to get spammed with commercials...

Such as only being able to use the OS on one computer, or not being able to re-sell it after you are done with it
Sounds a lot like a lot of software agreements

Can you type any worse?
Dont give him ideas

why would anyone buy software lol? only software i have ever baught and will ever buy are games. bit torrent / cracks > microsoft. cry in hell bill
Congrats. You got promoted.

ok, explain then? where the hell you gonna get $5 windows?
Very easily. And they offer it to you. But being 16 you dont have to worry about that for a long time.

This thread is gonna die real fast if the piracy talk keeps it up ... we already got one promotion, lets not have anymore.

Why dont you read what it is you're buying! It clearly says in plain english that you are buying one licence for one machine at a time. It clearly says in plain english that you are buying one license for one machine at a time. (Wrote it twice as you seem to be having trouble with it)
Feeling a wee bit malicious, are we? You misunderstood my meaning; that was opinion, not observation. I understand that what is being bought is one license for one machine, I just don't believe that that's how it should be. You should be able to purchase an OS, and if you get a new computer or reconfigure your hardware, you should be able to (re)install it without having to plead with Microsoft. I understand, however, that there would be a plethora of different problems with that ideology, primarily dominated by issues with piracy. I'm not saying that there's an absolute solution; just things that are slightly better (and to address the bit about transport and the London underground, a philosophy applicable to operating systems is not universally true/sensible. I wouldn't even try to apply that with something of that sort, particularly seeing as computers and the sort are generally recreational: Nobody EVER says, "hey, you know what would be fun? A ride on the London Underground! Yeah, that'd be great!").
