Brand new 1TB hard drive gets 931 GB?

I know drives take up space to run and stuff but 70 gigs?! That's crazy! Is this normal? I just bought a WD 1TB Caviar Black
 
Its the 1000 bytes vs.1024 bytes, decimal vs. binary between harddrive manufacturers and Microsoft. lol

You didn't lose anything. Its normal like above.

For reference, my 640 gig aaks shows up as 596gig (when formatted for windows)
 
How many times must the same thing be said over and over? StrangleHold already answered the OP's question, there is no need to keep giving the same answer.

Everyone just needs to relax. This thread is done, question answered, but I don't want to have to close it.

0mega, you're right. The rest of these posts are superfluous and I know you're just trying to stop post padding but if some of these new folks with a couple dozen posts are doing that everyone will know soon enough.
 
Just remember that you have to start somwhere guys. Even with all the FAQ's and 101's there will be people that ask the same question :o
