Brand new custom PC problems

Hello!

I just recently purchased and assembled a custom computer from Newegg. This computer has been up and running for about a day now and I have only been having problems with it so far.

I mainly bought this computer to be able to run Diablo III on max settings and smoothly.

Computer Specs
Motherboard - Asus P8H67-M Pro
CPU - Intel core i5 2500 Sandy Bridge
Ram - 2 x 4gb Corsair DDR3
PSU - Raidmax RX-630SS 630 watt
Case - Rosewill Challenger
Video Card - PNY Geforce GTX 550Ti
Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Problem
The problem I have is that it constantly makes programs not respond. Usually when this happens the computer will also freeze. It will become unfrozen after a couple of minutes.

Another problem I have is frequent crashes. Which is a bigger deal than the freezing itself.

Things I have tried
I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (BIOS updated 4/20/12).
I have all the drivers installed, got everything latest from the manufacturers website.

Please help me!

Edit: When it crashes they are NOT BSODs! They just shut the computer completely off. -Added Video card.

it could be a weak power supply. i know that brand aint very reliable, or of good quality. it may be your level of cooling as well. how many fans are running and what sizes, and configuration. have you checked the temps of the cpu? if its running hot then that could be the cause. 1st i would check your temps using hwmonitor. you can download it free, just google it. if the temps are low, say 40s to 50s celcius, then i would try running a stress test, like intelburntest. it can also be downoaded free. run that while hwmonitor is running, and monitor the temps. if it gets to the mid 70s celcius then stop the test and try reapplying the cpu cooler and thermal paste. if it doesnt reach that temp, and it still crashes, then i would look to try a different power supply in the system, thats better quality.

you can try these things as your initial diagnostics. if neither seem to resolve the problem, then we can take it from there

A few things to check.

1. cpu temp - will cause system to shut down
2. Power supply - bad output from unit will cause weird things to happen
3. Hard drive - errors on the hard drive can cause this issue as well. Might want to scan the drive for errors.

Alright I will try all of those.
I use Auslogics boost speed, what program do you recommend to search for hard drive errors?

Will reply back with results in a bit.

Also, I am thinking about reseating my entire computer (Taking it apart and putting it together again, I didn't do too good of a job on the coords in the computer)

The hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic tools. If cannot find it, western digitial's lifeguard will scan any hard drive.

Did it come with windows installed, or did you install it yourself? If it came installed, might have a lot of bloatware.

No, I installed it myself.
I am thinking I may have to re-install windows to fix it? Any ideas?

Also, my temps are good. 30-40 degrees Celsius. I ran intelburntest and they peaked 95 degrees Celsius.

Right when the test finished I got a BSOD.

Also, every time I try to run Diablo 3, my computer completely resets itself.

I am reseating it right now to see if it will fix anything.

Also, I am using the stock cooler, it did not come with any paste I can apply myself. If this seriously be the problem, I will buy some.

Reinstalling won't do much since you installed it recently. Unless you really, really messed up windows.

I'm thinking either bad hard drive or power supply.

im pretty much thinking its the power supply. since when the computer crashes after the stress test has taken place, and more so because the system crashes when you load your game. does it crash at all when you play other games? i know you said that it will crash sometimes when doing basic things, so it could deffinatly be the power supply. i had a computer do the same type of things, and eventualy with in a couple months, it turned off, and never started again till i replaced the power supply.

I have only ran the computer for a day max. Just fresh out of the box, ran it, and then these problems have been there the whole time. Never ran any other game besides Diablo 3.

So you're saying, I should replace the power supply? ****ing sucks. Diablo 3 is released 3 A.M. today to play, I just got the digital copy installed and everything.

Looks like my gaming will have to wait :(.

Are you for sure it's the power supply?

95C is terrible, should never be that high, i had a 2500k on stock heatsink and burntested at like 60 max, there's something wrong there.

Yeah, didn't notice that, way too high of temps.

Either get a better heatsink/fan or reapply the thermal paste.

you need to first try and reseat your cpu cooler. remove it, then clean all the thermal paste off both the cooler and cpu with 90% alcohol, and a paper towel. then take the thermal paste and apply about a half inch strip down the center of the cpu. or you can do just a pea sized dot in the center. reseat the cooler and be sure to tighten it down evenly. then restart the computer and see what idle temps your getting, along with load temps using intel burn test again. the cou should NOT exceed low 70's celcius, and even that isnt great, although at the max for intel cpu's. if the temps are better, and it still crashes, then id say its more than likley the power supply. cant be for certain, but thats what it sounds like to me.

if you dont have another power supply, you could go to a retailer that sells them, and install it to see if it solves the problem. if it does, but you need the money for something else, then you can always return the power supply to the retailer and get a refund. you usualy will have 14 to 30 days for a refund, just keep your receipt. at least then you will know if its the power supply or not, and take it from there

The heatsink has a clip that is kind of hard to get out. Should I Just try harder? I do not want to do anything bad to my motherboard.. The other 3 come out easily and this one feels like I'm trying too hard, any insight?

Alright, I will go to Best Buy hopefully tomorrow and pick up some thermal paste and put it on the cpu. If that does not work, then I will either have to get a replacement for my power supply from newegg or just buy a new one and get a refund.

Thanks for all the help guys.

BTW. My laptop also gets 80-90 degrees Celsius when I run IntelBurnTest, given it is a laptop. Is that bad? I've had the laptop for about a year now with no problems.

Are you using a good laptop cooler while you run the test?
