So I recently bought the new sony S series laptop and I threw in Age of Empires just for fun but almost immediately the laptops fans kicked on and stayed on and after an hour of play the temps were at 160+.

Specs
i5 2.5 ghz processor
4gb ddr3 ram
intel hd graphics 3000 graphics
and amd radeon hd 6470 graphics

why the hell is it overheating on AOE?
I will be ordering 8gigs of RAM in the next couple months but I dont think that will affect it a whole lot..

thanks for any advice

Holy crap!!

First thing i would think of is maybe some packaging foam or something blocking venting. Either that or thermal paste was not applied!

Those are crazy temps, and i know crazy lol

just to clarify... we are talking 160F. I agree they are probably way too hot, but they are not celcius people! haha

Ill give sony a call tomorrow.

PHEW! lol.

well seeing as thats only 71C, i would still call sony and see what's up. I've been reading about majority of laptop temps (trying to figure out my own) and seen that Laptops run hotter then desktops. Mine usually runs about 55C reaching temps up to 80C (depending on what i am doing). Aparently these temps are acceptable. I even use a laptop cooler (just a cheap one though).

I called them and they installed a couple new updates, one of which was a bioss update and that one made my fans a ton quiter... but the guy didnt know what a good heating range was, but did tell me that if it gets too hot it will thermal out so I guess thats good news........ but if a brand new laptop thermals out due to a 5 year old game that shiz is wack!

bottom line Im going to upgrade the ram even though I dont think that will change much and I may look into some type of tweaking to help the laptop work less or work more efficient..

thanks for your help guys

Did you check to see what programs are running in the back round that might be over working the cpu? Sony installs a lot of bloat ware. Plus what happened to the idea of sending in the computer? I mean after all if it is a defect I would get them to fix it since it is under warranty.

What the hell? Is it gold plated? An i5 with a 6470 is not worth $1200.

An i7 with a gtx560 sells for $1200

Well I got the extended battery and I think it was actually like 1100 with that? so maybe it was around 900-1000.

I got the best they offered July I think is when I ordered it.
