Brisban 5200+ vs Windsor 6000+

Hey CF,

I i'm looking to get a little more cpu power. The 5200+ i have now plays games well, but i would like to up my frame rates and up my multi tasking power a little more.

I know i'm going to get recommended to upgrade my mobo, and get a new cpu but i can get the 6000+ for only $35 through my dad's work.

I want to know if that would be a good upgrade. The CPU i have now is Brisbane 5200+ and im looking at the Windsor 6000+.

Is windsor better than brisbane? by how much if so? thanks!

I also tried searching for comparisons online as far as bench marks for these two but couldnt find any.

Yea i know the Ghz are close, But i've been reading the Windsor series performs better? but it is older technology.

so it kind of throws me off. Just would like a clarification.

The difference between the two is the clock speed and the process size. The Brisbanes all have odd clock speeds vs the Windsor at even clock speeds. Other then the 5000+ BE of course. Oh and 90 nm vs 65 nm.

thanks for the info!

so all in all, would the $35 for the 6000+ give me a small boost in computing power? i guess that's what i really want to know. Will i notice anything in gaming, Multitasking?

It won't blow your socks off. You can save that $35 and put it towards your fund for a new board and new processor for the future too. Its ultimately up to you.

hmm.. i was kinda hoping it would do a liiitttle more to increase my gameplay experience. Cuz i dont see myself really upgrading or overhauling my system anytime soon since it has been able to play most games fine.

maybe it's a better fit for my 8800GT?

for instance, i play DIRT 2, and it i can have it on the highest settings but its playing at about 35 fps. I notice when i turn down some stuff like shadows it'll play at 43+ and i can tell it seems smoother.

it'd be nice if i had the settings maxed and i still get the around 45 fps.

If $35 isn't going to break the bank...it will be a lil upgrade for you. It won't bottleneck your system like the 5200+ but it prolly won't be a dramatic increase either.

The Brisbane 6000 has half the L2 cache that the Windsor has. So they inceased the Mhz. by 100 so it would equal the performance of the Windsor 6000.

Clock for clock with the same L2 the 90nm. Windsor was slightly faster.

65nm. was not good for AMD. The drop from 90nm. to 65nm. didnt give them any performance gain at all other then running alittle cooler and a tad less voltage. Hence why the Phenom I didnt perform that well, really the Phenom I was just 4 Brisbane cores with 2mb. of L3 added on a die.
