Broadband Sharing on a NETGEAR DG834GT

I recently signed up to a Sky broadband package and they sent me a NETGEAR DG834GT, and I need to share the connection between two PCs.

I have set up the broadband connection on one(the first) PC, and both PCs are connected (wired) to the router.

I am experiencing a lot of connectivity issues on the second PC. It seems the connection is disconnecting and reconnecting a lot.

This causes videos to stop working, downloads to stall, MSN to relog and GuildWars to crash.

I was advised about port forwarding, but I had trouble assigning static IP addresses.

What do do :(?

Port forwarding might help....it sure wouldnt hurt anyways.

To set a static IP go to start-->Connect To-->Show All connections to get to the Network connections screen.

Right click on your ethernet adapter and go to properties. Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and hit properties. Then select "Use the following IP address" and fill in the blanks.

The ip address is that of the computers, as would be assigned currently by the router. To see what it is now, go to START--> RUN and type cmd

Then type ipconfig/all and look for your current internal ip there. Then type that into the blank.

Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

The default gateway is whatever you need to type in to get to your router config page (ie: 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1...etc...)

The DNS server(s) can also be found in the command window where you got your IP from a second ago.....this is an important part, dont miss it ;)

Once this is all set up and you have your static ip set up port forwarding. For the most used PC i would reccomend DMZ, which is like opening all the ports. For the other PC, just open the ports that u need for games and applications. A google search could tell you what ports different games or applications use.
