Broadband speed issues - Help needed please!

Hi Everyone,

I wondered if anyone could help me. I am having ongoing problems with my ISP.

I upgraded from 2.2Mbps to 8Mbps - I was initially informed that I wouldn't be able to obtain the full 8Mbps in my area and would be looking at 5/6Mbps. Although this was considerably slower than the full 8Mbps I was happy enough with what they had quoted - after all, this was a marked improvement on my already 2.2Mbps.

Anyway, here I am nearly two months after the initial 'upgrade' and I have had continuas problems from the outset. Slow speeds all of the time, on occasion as slow as 700Kbps. Tiscali are now informing me that my line is only capable of 2.5Mbps. If I'd been made aware of this in the beginning I wouldn't have bothered attempting to upgrade - who would?

I have been with tiscali for several years without any real problems, this being the main reason why I decided to stay with them and upgrade. When I got involved in this recent upgrade I entered a new 12 month contract. As far as I am concerned though, they are now in breach of their contract because they are not providing me with the agreeed service. My speeds were perfect before tiscali started this so-called upgrade - thanks to their incompetence, my speeds are now SLOWER!

They have had me doing the normal jumping through hoops for the last fifty-odd days, speed tests etc - surely they know what speed I am receiving by checking at their end? Can anyone answer that one for me please?

With reference to their recent admission that my line is only capable of 2.5Mbps - the screenshot below is from my laptop.

Does the 3.2Mbps in the 'Broadband Status' window mean anything, does that mean my line can actually achieve that speed? On my desktop PC it reads as 4.1Mbps in the 'Broadband Status' window. If these 'Broadband Status' windows mean that my line is actually capable of these speeds, tiscali are really leading me up the garden path - from what I hear I won't be the first time.

I don't know if it's against forum rules to add links when someone's having problems with an ISP, if so, mods please remove the link. If not, here's the link below to my ongoing problem with the infamous tiscali.

Any answers to my questions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
