OK, This is the deal, while cleaning my Compaq desktop (MS-6577)
I accidentally broke a pin off my Intel chip, (don’t ask) Bummer huh, so I was wondering since I have to buy another processor anyway, I may as well upgrade, My question is what would be a good compatible upgrade chip for this model, the chip I broke is a Intel celeron 2.8GHZ, 400FSB
Budget: $150 or under
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Motherboard Description MIS name: MS-6577 M-ATX Rev. 3.1 (Giovani), Rev. 4.0 (Giovani2)

Compaq name: Giovani-GL6, Giovani2-GL6

CPU
• Socket 478 for Intel P4 Williamette and Northwood processors
• 1.4GHZ to 2.8GHz or higher
Intel 845GV Chipset
• FSB 400/533
• Multiplexed AGP interface
• Integrated 3D/2D graphic core

I can get this through Price watch from PC Direct, Intel Celeron-D 2.8GHz 478 Pin OEM CPU, 533 FSB $86.00 with free shipping, Does anyone know if my board is compatable with the Celeron - D, Or if anyone ever bought anything from PC direct?

unless you can flash your BIOS to support Prescott, dont get the first one that mlitz recommended, or youll spend a lot of dough on something that wont work, but according to your motherboard specs any Northwood core Pentium 4 with a clock speed and FSB that is within those specs should work, just make sure you get the right core, you might see if Compaq has a BIOS update that supports the Prescott core for your mobo, but i somewhat doubt it.

The 533 Mhz fsb chip might not work with the compaw board. They are usually very picky and only like to use a specific chip. If you end up buying it and it doesn't work then you can most likely send it back and buy the correct one.
