It is a seagate drive, i actually think i have 2 drives in my computer. It is a store bought HP Pavilion Elite. One drive just has recovery in it and it i can open files in the seagate.

No, usually HP only gives you one drive with 2 partitions on it. One being the main and the other being the recovery which you shouldn't be touching by putting data on it. It's required to do the system recovery when you need to reinstall windows.
