I broke my sisters Dell Inspiron 1200 by accidentally whacking it backwards, and now the screen looks broken in pieces sort of and at the top left hand corner i can distinguish a little lettering at times that says something like weapo-----for the inconvenience. My first thought was just to get a new screen, but when i tried plugging it into my PC monitor it wont show up either. I have a fair amount of experience with Pc's but none with Laptop insides... any ideas, help, anything?

It should still work, just cracking the LCD shouldn't ruin the whole laptop. Are you sure you have it set to output video on the VGA out?
As for a new screen, it's typically not overly complicated to swap out a screen. Typically it's just got 2 screws for the hinges and 2 or 3 sets of wires for various interfaces, power, backlight, etc...
