Hey all, I decided to clean my motherboard and most of the dust was around the fan ontop of the heat sink. This fan, however, wasn't coming off. So I undid the clips and stuff and I unattached the heat sink from the motherboard. I took the fan off the heatsink, cleaned it, and attached everything back to normal.

When I went to start my computer, it turned on but nothing happened (no moniter connection or drive activity). I thought the prob was that heatsink, so i took it out and checked if i put it in right. Unfortunately, the chip came off the sink. I plugged the chip in manually on2 the motherboard and put the sink ontop of it, clamped it down and tryed starting the computer again. This time the computer wouldnt even turn on!

I dont know what to do and I dont want to buy a new computer. Please help, thx

Most computers will at least come on, even without a CPU(well, fans and what not, no screen of course) So, if it is related to the CPU/HSF, something must be inserted wrong. Check the pins and be sure nothing's bent or broken. Be sure the heatsync's fan is connected to the correct header on the board.

Of course, it couldn't hurt to also check around to be sure nothing else was knocked off... Check all the front pannel connections, ATX, etc etc...

If NOTHING is coming on (no fan or lights and what not) check your power connections in case you kncked something out..... If everything is plugged in then you might have fried you mobo because it should at least turn on......

you might of put the cpu in wrong take it out and check the pins if some are bent carefully bend them back also did you remember to plug the heastsink fan cable back onto the mobo
