My brother is getting this problem which makes him unable to use his it. He needs to use it very soon so any help would do.
Occurs when he turns it on.

Probably a cracked screen or a broken/wearing LCD ribbon cable.

If he has dedicated graphics it could be a dead integrated GPU. In which case... well you'll have to send it back to manufacturer if it's under warranty (a friend of mine has had a dedicated GPU in her Dell laptop die - not nice!
