BROWSEUI.DLL missing!! Help!

I turned my computer on today and after the windows boot up screen came up an error message came up saying "Explorer error" in the menu bar. The error message was " BROWSEUI.DLL file is missing"

After this error message is gone the windows screen loads up but no START MENU or ICONS . The only thing I have been able to do is open task manager.

I can not find my Windows XP Home Edition disc.

I booted up in Safe mode and still no icons or Start Menu.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this???? Please help!

When you log in, open task manager and start a new task: explorer.exe
You should now be able to see the start bar. see if you can find and open that .dll file as well, it may have been moved or deleted. if you find it, put it back in its original place. I'm guessing it goes in:

C:\windows\system32

or somehwere like that.
The easy way around is to reformat and reinstall. You will lose all data that way though.
 
Well Often wid time the system files get corrupted or damaged. So these files need to be replaced with original files from time to time.
Windows provide a simple tool called sfc for this very purpose. It is inbuilt and comes with the O.S. itself.

Just go to command prompt.Then goto for ur windows dir and system32 dir and type sfc /scannow. If any system files needs to be replaced it will ask for the Windows O.S. CD.
After the process is completed.
Restart the system.
 
I agree wth Divyesh...run the SFC/scannow. I will also add that there is usually a reason why registry files become corrupt. After you get your PC running again, run a malware check using a reliable program like superantispyware. You either deleted the file by accident, another program overwrote the registry, the registry is corrupt, or there is a virus or malware corrupting your system.

The file is missing or corrupt, so explorer.exe won't open...if it won't open on startup, chances are it won't start manually either.

Also, you can't just "guess" where these files go...

This would be difficult for the OP as he stated he has no Windows O.S. CD...
