Browsing/downloading freezes

Hey fellas I have been having a lot of problems with diwnloading things lately. Basically when I copy and paste the URL in the address bar, the green bar at the bottom right moves very slowly. Usually I get a pop-up asking to open or save the file. When I highlight the URLs and click "Download with IDM", again the browser freezes. I look in task manager and it show "running" under "applications". I am using IE and Firefox. Both are giving me issues. I have never had this sort of problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It's hard to advice without more info.

What type of internet connection do you have?

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key

, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
- security programs in use (antivirus, firewall)

Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same problem?

Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same issue?
