BSOD after installing new RAM

I installed a new stick of RAM (PNY 4GB) and now my display is acting weird and the computer crashes and the blue screen says PFM LIST CORRUPT.

Either the memory isn't compatible with the other installed sticks or the new stick is bad. Run memtest on it.

Take out the 4gb stick and see if the issues go away.

If you need the 12gb, set the clock speed, timings and voltage manually and test with memtest86+

You didn't buy matched sticks, so you'll have to relax the timings to something that they all support.

It seems like the PNY stick you bought can't do the same specs as your Corsair.

Set the RAM to 1333, 10-10-10-28 at 1.5v and test with memtest

I would still recommend taking out the 4gb kit if you are not hitting the limit with 8gb. your corsair kit can run 1600, 9-9-9-24

So should I take the Corsairs down to the settings of the PNY or overclock the PNY to match the Corsairs?

And will doing this risk bricking my PC?

Alright, I went into my BIOS and went into the RAM settings. It is the most confusing think I've ever seen. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing...

You can't brick a PC unless you fry something. That's when you reset the CMOS

That's been quite apparent for some time now.

Since installing the stick, Google Chrome displays an "Aw, Snap!" error every time I try to visit a page. I removed the stick and my browsers work fine again...

I'm returning the stick tomorrow and probably just going to buy another stick of Corsair.

Save yourself the money and don't get anything. You don't need the extra ram if you are only using 50 percent of existing ram. You've been told this before. Only get more if your are close to say 80-85 percent usage.

^ +1

Right now, my RAM usage is 38% of 8GB.

Q: Am I concerned?
A: No.

Q: Would I even bother to look if it weren't for this damned Thread?
A: No.

Q: Why?
A: Because I never have performance issues and 8GB is more than I'll ever need.

Q: Why are you insisting on making a huge deal over this?
A: I don't know.

You want to re-enter the lottery of having a BSOD? I know you're young and don't want to listen to us but don't look for help if you can't listen to the people helping you. Do you know what kind of RAM you need? Everytime we try to help you it's the same, you act like a kid and tell us our job is to help you. No my job is being a geologist, I'll help you on my free time if you are being nice.

Now if really you are going for the useless 12GB, do you know what kind of RAM you need?
