why a gigabyte 8800? I think evga and others look better is there something about that one? Or is it just what you picked?
 
i would trust gigabyte with my life.
the evga one runs hot at 600MHz core, this gigabyte runs quite cool with its huge zalman cooler.
that is about all

What is the use your friend intends to make out of it and what exactly do you need in your 1000$ ?

Do you need only the case or the monitor, o/s, speakers, mouse, keyboard, etc.
 
Hey, my X2 3800+ is old but it can definately stand tall on gaming man! :D

Well in my situation, getting a new graphics card (upgraded from 7600GT) would be the better choice to get better FPS than getting a new CPU so I thought I could get the HD3870 and it really did a better job than the 7600GT.

Yeah I know the X2 3800+ is old and socket 939! :eek: but that's why I'm upgrading, check my sig. ;)
