Budget android tablet that will also replace basic laptop functions?

Hi all.

I am looking at buying a tablet on a budget. Approx £200.

It will mainly be for casual Internet browsing, watching videos, playing games etc. However I also would the option to use it for some very basic functions I currently use my laptop for... e.g. transferring pictures from my camera to an external hard drive and attaching a keyboard for the occasional word document. (My laptop is no longer useable!)

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was considering the Asus Transformer Pad.

I have looked at the option of a Windows tablet but the lack of apps... including things like sky go have put me off.

Thank you.

I think my concern is whether Android can see your camera. I will some research on this and if it can and you don't care about screen size I would recommend a nexus 7 as they are now a generation behind I can find them all day long here in the US at the proce you listed.

Does anyone actually plug their camera into their computer to download pictures anymore? I haven't even tried that in probably 10 years. I take the SD card out of my camera and plug it into the SD card reader on my computer.

An Android tablet most likely will not have an SD card reader but you could attach an external one using an OTG cable. You could also use the OTG cable to attach the external hard drive to transfer the pictures from the tablet to the drive.

Most (all?) Android tablets have Bluetooth built-in which makes it a snap to connect a Bluetooth keyboard. You could also use the aforementioned OTG cable to connect a USB keyboard. You could use the OTG cable to attach a USB hub then connect mouse, keyboard, card reader, external drive, network adapter, etc... to the Android tablet.

I have done everything you mentioned using my Nexus 7, however my Nexus 7 sits mostly unused since I got a Windows tablet. There are apps like Bluestacks that allow you to run Android apps on the Windows tablet. http://www.bluestacks.com/?bst_cmp=rptmgmt_us&gclid=CjwKEAjw7YWrBRCThIyogcGymQsSJAAmz_nd0j3hFBHJRO3dWA0JVJqr2MtFZ6iG7aujnAqa6li5MhoCa1rw_wcB.

Personally, I couldn't use an Android tablet to replace my Windows laptop but could do it with a Windows tablet.

Thank you,

I should have clarified, I wouldn't directly plug in my camera I would plug in the SD card to transfer pictures across to an external hard drive.

I had never heard of an android app on a windows tablet, that sounds like a much better option. After searching I have discovered AmiDuOS which has very good reviews, so I think that may be the way forward.

On that note do you have recommendations for a windows tablet under £200?

Thanks!

I had a Windows nextbook that wasn't bad and I think I paid $179 for it. Not a great brand but couldn't beet the price.
