Budget Build. Is tis ok.

I am building a new computer that will be used primarily for gaming. I am on a budget so the system I am building is basic and hopefuly mid range. I have a budget of a little over $700 tell me if this is ok...

Intel E8400 $209
Asus P5N-E SLI $135
Gigabyte 512mb 8800gt $229
2G Kingston 800 $53
SHAW Tornado $39
Maxtor 250G SATA $56

comes to $721 Australian.

Does this look alrigt or should I change something?

Everything looks fine, besides your hard drive. I would pick up a Seagate or Western Digital (Seagate would be choice #1 IMO) instead of that Maxtor. While many people don't have problems with Maxtor drives, overall they are regarded as less reliable than either of the two brands I named.

I assume you have a case and optical drives already.

Thanks for the tip on the HDD. The segate is only a little more expensive so I will get that one instead. I was looking at a SHAW case. I ave been told that you cannot rely on a SAW psu but I'm only looking for something cheap so is it ok or is there another that would be better suited to this build? Also how big a psu would I need to run this system well?

You won't be wanting to use any psu that comes with a case. For that build, I would recommend a psu with a minimum of 500 watts, from a good brand of course. 500-600W is what you're looking at there, when (or if) you ever want to go SLi and pick up another 8800GT (or whatever your plan was), you'll probably want a nice 700-750W psu at the minimum.

Corsair and OCZ are two quality psu brands. There are others out there like Antec, Thermaltake, etc that are pretty decent as well. Find one or more psus on newegg and then run them by us.

wat kind of a brand are A-Power? I can pick up a 650w A-Power psu for $40. I realise that you get what you pay for when it comes to power suplys but what is the worst that can happen with a cheap one? is there a chance that it could fry anything or do you just not use them because of the posibility that in a months time you have to trough it out and but a new one?

assumong you already have a case and optical drive(s) you should be set. as for the psu definitely get a well known brand and get a 575W or 600W just so you'll have a little extra
because you never know
