Budget CPU Build

I'm on a serious budget with this. I already have a mouse and keyboard off my old dell. I have a monitor also, but would like to upgrade to a flat screen at some point. This is just an extra computer for the house. My main is a laptop. This will be used for your basic internet browsing, stuff like that. I would like to keep cost under $300 for what I need.

For a budget that low, you'd be better off by buying a comp from a retail. If you build it, it's like you only have $200 for the parts (which is too little for all the parts) because the operative system is an extra ~$100.

OK, well for that then it can be an AMD system:

Motherboard - $49.99

CPU - $47.99

Ram - $59.99

Hard Drive - $59.99

Power Supply - $54.99

Case - $59.99

Total - $332.94 - a little over budget

i hope this is ok..... you won't need a good graphics card, AMD will be fine for what your wanting to use the computer for.

$326-Total.

Yes, I realised it's a tad over the $300 mark, but it's the best I can do. If you're not 100% happy with those specs, just be patient, and someone a bit more knowledgable will probably give you better parts for less.

Im not poor, I just don't see a point in spending alot of money on a second computer just for the bedroom desk. It will probably be used by the fiance as I use the laptop.

Thanks for the responses thus far. I'm seeing some good things and its ok if the price is a bit over $300. I just put that up there as a good starting point.

I think building a CPU could prove to be a little too difficult. I think you should build a computer instead. Anyway, here are the correct choices:

Motherboard - GA-73VM-S2 - $54.99

CPU - E1200 - $49.99

RAM - 2x512MB Crucial DDR2 667 - $26.99

HDD - WD 80GB SATA - $38.99

Case - Some garbage, get whatever - $21.99

Power Supply - Antec Basiq 350 - $19.99

OS (assuming you aren't acquiring one) - XP Home 32 SP2 - $85.99

and 20 bucks for whatever optical drive, it doesn't really matter.

Total of $232.94, $317.93 with operating system.

Too bad it doesn't fit in the guy's BUDGET....

For your best bets, look at fortways and daisy's posts. Or get something else along the lines of daisy's link...or some other OEM type deal.

I still have a Pentium 3 733Mhz system with 128MB memory that I turn on every once in awhile. Surprise, surprise...it has no problem surfing the internet, checking email, or other minor, similar tasks. Fortyways' system spec list is miles ahead of it in every area. Just some thoughts. (you don't need much, let alone a $70 cpu that doesn't fit into budget anyway)
