Budget Desktop for Gaming??

Basically my old computer has a bad motherboard and is a piece of crap...were either going to have to replace a bunch of parts in the comp or just buy a new one. Thing is my dad is the one buying the stuff....he doesn't want to spend very much money (pretty typical). Anyways, I would like to have a decent gaming machine and I have seen some pretty nice ones in the $600-800 dollar range. However, my dad seems to think that is outrageous. I need it to run Everquest 2 ( I would prefer to have something with 3-4 Gigs of RAM and a nicer video card, 2.5ghz+ processor)....anyways I don't even know if its possible to get a decent comp for under $400, but give me your opinions. As far as building a comp goes, I'm not sure if that is an option right now, so please just give me opinions on complete desktops.

No "complete desktops" from an oem will plan any games tbh, you will be lucky to get something that will run windows vista decently in the budget sector of pre built rigs. Maybe 2gb ram, integrated graphics, pentium dual core at 2ghz or so.

Even if you dont buy a tower and just build it on a slab of wood or something (not recommended ;)) your still up for more than $500.

Ram = ~80
HDD = ~100
CPU = ~ 150
GPU = ~ 250

Thats not including power supply, mobo, dvd drives, sound cards, etc. No budget gaming comp is possible at $500 thats pre-built, and building one yourself, you'll probably have to try and pick up some second hand things to make it fit in your budget.
Sorry to put a downer on it bud =] But it is going to be very tough to pull much from $500.

What parts are in the old one? You might be able to build a new one and use some of your old parts =D What you got? :D

Everything I said is almost irellevant, try and coax an extra 150 and heres your build mate =]
