Budget Desktop for Music Production

Hi all.

I am desperately in need of a computer upgrade and would really appreciate your advice.

The recommended spec for some of the software I will be using is a quadcore 2.4Ghz processor with 4Gb RAM, so I have been weighing up two options.

1. buy a barebones system and have seen this one on Novatech's website. (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Barebones/Novatech/BB-I5754A.html)
I can add my existing HDDs, optical drives and graphics card to this.

or...

2. building one from scratch.
I have sourced some parts from ebuyer.com that I think are suitable.
Antec 300 Three Hundred Case (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143854)
ASUS P7P55D iP55 Socket LGA 1156 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173451)
Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172755)
Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Ballistix Memory Kit CL7 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179278)
Coolermaster GX 650W PSU (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200491)

Again, I can add my existing HDDs, optical drives and graphics card to this set up.

I am not a complete novice when it comes to computers and think I could build one myself however I am also by no means an expert.

I have done a lot of reading about all the components and I am slightly wary about 'unbranded' components in the Novatech barebones system, especially the PSU but does the system I have put together using Ebuyer.com look much better?

I only have a budget of £500 for this but at the same time I would like to get the best system possible.

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Thanks, that's what I was thinking to be honest. My main concern with building from scratch is connecting everything to the motherboard (LEDs, fans, PSU, etc...) Am I worrying about nothing or is there anything I need to know that isn't really clear in the manual?

Thanks

You'll need alot of dexterity, and a nice open space, apart from that, follow the manual and you should be OK :)

@daisy - Yeah, they are in terms of stock and pricing, but my stuff from novatech has never failed me; even their own-brand 500W PSU :P

EDIT there are too many guides to building a PC to count, one search of youtube should reveal all:D

If I were you I would look at 4 gigabytes of DDR3 1600 (PC2 12800) RAM over DDR3 1333. The memory is about the same price and the DDR3 1600 memory is faster.
