Ok so he wants a tower just to do the basics. No gaming. Basically surfing the web, checking e-mail, music, that sort of thing. So here's what I can up with. I don't want to price the go over $400 shipped.

PowerUp Mid Tower Case

Antec SmartPower 2.0 350W PSU

MSI PM8M3-V Socket 775 Mobo

Intel Celeron D 3.2GHz processor

G.Skill 512MB DDR400 memory

Hitachi 160GB SATA HDD

Chaintech Geforce FX5200 128MB Video Card

NEC DVD+/-RW Drive

Total: $341 w/o shipping and handling

Any suggestions? Maybe down grade something that isn't needed?

change the celeron to a cheap AMD 64 or sempron and just find another mobo thats around the same price campatible with amd and is an asus preferably

yeah, get an athlon 64 3000 or something.. if it is a really basic computer only an 80gig drive would be suffice. also, a combo drive would suit him/her probably..

They have that deal where you get a free mobo with an Athlon 64 3400 purchase. Might get that. I think everything else looks good though. My friends wants alot of space to hold all his music.
