Hey guys,

I was thinking of a new system build....Im not happy with the speed of my rig i want faster.
Nothings for definate yet but i was just getting some ideas on parts.

budget is around £600 ish....i plan to keep my 4890 for the new build so i dont need a GFX card.

Intel Core i5 660 3.33GHz Socket 1156 4MB L3 Cache Retail Box Processor

Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L P55 Socket 1156 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 XMS3 Dominator Memory CL9 (9-9-9-24)

Corsair Extreme Series X64 64GB 2.5" Solid State Hard Drive SATA300 64MB Cache

Antec TruePower Quattro 850W Modular PSU - 2x 8pin PCI-E 2x 6pin PCI-E 4x 12V Rails 80PLUS Energy Efficiency

This build would only go ahead though if i could sell my current rig in sig,My other Core 2 duo build and my Asus X-58 laptop.

well i choose the 660 because it has higher clock stock....but it has half the cache that the 750 has so....im not realy sure tbh.

Like i said ive got to sell my current rig...also got another Core 2 duo system for sale....and a Laptop.

Once those have sold i should have £600 if not some more.

Id also consider something from AMD....but what do they have better than an i5?

I saw some benchmarks (will try to dig them out again, can't remember what site they were on) and they showed pretty conclusively that the phenomII x4 were just about on parr with the i5's, to the point that performance difference would be negligable.

Because of that, it may be better to go AMD than Intel because of price and that you will get pretty much the same performance as you would with the system you built there.

Also, why an 850W PSU  If you are intnet on having one for future upgrades and that, you can get:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/850W...PCI-E-ATX12V-22-and-EPS12V-80-Efficiency-RoHS

for cheaper, and if I remember correctly from when I got my PSU from htere it was just over, like by a few p, £10 for shipping, so that would still put it cheaper

Alright what about this.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 8MB L3 Cache 125W Retail Box Processor

Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H 785G Socket AM3 DVI VGA HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard

Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 XMS3 Dominator Memory CL9 (9-9-9-24)

Corsair 650W TX Series PSU - 120mm Fan, 80+% Efficiency, Single +12V Rail

Corsair Extreme Series X64 64GB 2.5" Solid State Hard Drive SATA300 64MB Cache

Total = £552.69

That phenom is 3.4Ghz stock  and is the black edition so i can probably overclock more.

and of course id be using my 4890...thats a beast and no need for upgrading.

i would choose the intel over that corsair drive, dont listen to all the figures they give you!

its random read/write times that factor more in day to day use, intel 80gig mlc g2 ssd is one of the best in its price range only out done by a couple other in its price range!

Looks like it will be the Intel then,i want an SSD anyway i know that!

any other suggestions guys?

btw i already have a buyerfor my laptop.....thats £230 towards this build :)

why dont you buy the intel ssd with that, you know the ssd's makes a whole pc feel like a new build... might make you think twice about buying a new one for a while

i dunno,i might just go with something like this...Bound to be faster than my current setup anyway..

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz Socket AM3 8MB L3 Cache 125W Retail Box Processor

MSI NF750-G55 nForce 750a SLI Socket AM3 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz/PC3-12800 XMS3 Dominator Memory CL9 (9-9-9-24)

Western Digital WD1500HLFS 150GB Hard Drive SATAII 10000rpm 16MB Cache - OEM WD VelociRaptor

Antec TruePower New 650W Modular PSU - 80plus Bronze and SLI Certified 3x SATA

Antec 300 Three Hundred Case

and of course my 4890...

but id also have to buy a cheaper card to shove in the Q6600 rif if i wanted to sell it as a working system,so id be looking at adding maybe a Radeon 4650 to the list.

£546.

Im just frustrated atm,i have my Core 2 duo build to sell,my laptop could already be sold....il know tommorow, and then ive got to sell the q6600 rig too.

I just want it all gone, and a new fresh system.

well you want to sell it on ebay m8, dont bother with trying to sell on here as 99.9% of users would only want to buy a part and that sucks cos it takes too long!

advertise it as a gaming rig on ebay put in you reserve price then give it a few days

Yeah my mate said ebay,But....like you probably know, you got all the hastle of postage...then you get the ebay + paypal charges on top...

Id probably try Bargian pages first, also the back page of Micro Mart magazine and try to sell it localy.

Just as some alternatives,

The 955 over the 965, because all you'll need to do is overclock the 955 to get the same as the 65. Although its up to you, you could probably get a higher OC with 965 due to its stock clock.

Also wouldn't you want a HDD with more cache? Didn't you once need more or something? Well anyway a Samsung F1 Spinpoint has 32Mb and quite good stats:

Just my opinion, get one of the pro's here to give a second one. They know alot more in this field than I do. Good luck with the new build by the way :)

I stuck my lot on ebay, each as parts one day listings. Got over £600 in under a week, money was in my bank the next (if you even need it in there) I posted all my items off the same day & have got 9 new good feedbacks so far, out of my 18 listings I've only had one problem, some guy claimed one stick of sold ram was dodgy, I've offered him a £5 refund but he's since not replied.

sounds a good alternative Bootup,so how much you think for all of these.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
4Gb Ocz DDR2 Gold series memory.
250Gb Sata2 Hard drive
Ati 4890 1Gb GDDR5 Graphics
Creative X-FI Extreme 7.1 Sound card
Asus P5Q SE P45

did ebay + paypal sting you on charges?

I'd say around £240-£280 minus the graphics card. I thought you wasn't selling that?

If you are I'd say £110 for that aswell, that's what I got for mine.

eBay will charge you around £5 to list it, then a percentage on top of that from your final value fee, mine was around 9% charge so I had to pay £67, I'd say it'd be around £30/40 for your lot.

Paypal were good with charges, although they did hold one of my payments for an unknown reason, I kindly explained this to my buyer aswell as sending screenshots to him of the problem, he then promptly gave me some good feedback, I called paypal and they got my money off hold that day.

The guy came to pick up the monitor yesterday :)

ye sounds good....as for the graphocs card question, well i just had an idea that maybe just selling the lot as a whole and getting a 5850 for the new build....but not realy worth it...i think the 4890 is still more powerfull?

what i might just do now is...sell my mobo, cpu and ram.

and buy the cpu, mobo and ram i have in that list.

much cheaper!

The Q6600s seem to be going for around £100-110 buy it now prices on ebay so....and not only that, ive not realy seen many Q6600s for sale on some sites....alot of people still like them.

like i said,i might already have a buyer for the laptop...then the cash from selling the current mobo, cpu and ram (if it sells) would pay for my upgrade....
