build or buy

ok, so i want a computer to myself, so i want to buy one or build one. is it cheaper to buy a whole pc than to buy all the individual parts for the exact same thing. or if i looked around and got good deals, is it possible to build a better computer for the price of a pre-build one. if this is confusing i'll try to revise it.

Unless, you're really afraid of building a pc or want the warranty with a pre-built one, it always better/cheaper to build it yourself.

really, oh, that's cool, i'd much rather build it myself. could i build a nice one with a budget of say....400-600?

I would build your computer it is cheaper, fun, and you learn and get better at it when you build a lot of computers.

oo ya sure , in my sig , the whole thing cost me $530 , i should of gone with the nvidia 8600 though

and if i want to play the latest with the best performance options, about how much do you think i should spend?

Around $1000 thats about what I spent on my computer in my sig excluding the OS but prices have gone down and you dont exactly have to get the procssor I have there are cheaper slower ones that will work just fine and you probably dont need 4 gigs of ram unless your going to vista like I am planning on doing soon.

ah, vista is terrible in my opinion, i will most likely just go with xp, but either way, i'll most likely get 4gigs, just cause i can. but, the max i will spend is 700. it will still be 100 times better then this computer. and i should be fine putting it together....i just seem to have problems installing software for hardware...oh, well, manuals come in handy sometimes.

Thats why I got 4 gigs. If you want to play DX10 games youll need Vista though as you cant play DX10 games on XP unless someone finds away around that. Otherwise XP is a pretty good OS.

your not serious!?!?!?!? that's terrible. vista is no good. nothing is compatible with it.....this isnt fair...

Unfortunately I am serious but Vista aint as bad is some people make it out to be when manufactures get good drivers than Vista will be a pretty solid OS the same thing happened with XP. If you dont want to use Vista all the time you can dualboot xp and vista.

I run Vista Ultimate x64 and I've had any issues so far I couldn't resolve.
