Then you'll want one that will last a while, yeah?
Let's look back to 2005, when the top of the line CPU's were the Athlon 64 X2 4xxx and the Pentium D 8xx. Those were just about as good as it got back then...total overkill for any non-industrial application. Now, they're just barely able to play modern games, if at all. The lower priced ones would be the single core P4's and Athlon 64's...forget about gaming with those. See where I'm going with this?
Honestly though, if you're spending this much and are determined to go Intel, I'd just use that HP laptop for now until the new stuff comes out in Q1 next year. It would probably handle COD:BO and MOH on lower settings. Intel and AMD are both releasing new platforms, and both AMD and Nvidia will have a new line of graphics cards...some of which are already out. This would put you on a fresh platform with plenty of upgrade space, as opposed to the current line of products which have no upgrade room and will depreciate in value fairly quickly. If you want to go ahead and start buying parts, the case, HDD, dvd burner, RAM, and psu, will all work with the new systems. GPU as well, but you'll probably get a better deal on those later on.
