Hi. For christmas i want to get my little bro a computer. My budget is about $200. All he would use a computer for is internet use and The Sims 2. Is it possible to buy/build a computer on that budget that cna play the sims 2. If you have any ideas on waht i should buy let me know, thanks.

200 will get you a motherboard and a CPU possibly for games like sims 2 i dont think its possible

for web browsing you could get him a nice used pentium 3 for $100-200 I got one from here just make sure you save any numbers on the box because mine had a bad mobo and to get any help from them i needed a number that was on a peice of paper under the tape keeping the box closed :(
EDIT: here this one even has a pentium 4 http://www.bobjohnson.com/_store/Display_Products.asp?prodID=CPQ-EVO-D5S
don't try to play sims 2 on it though maybe the first sims though

dude sweet job finding all of that....i was beginning to think that wouldnt be possible. but boy u proved me wrong.....

took some time to find it but i did it after 2 hours ish! These parts will = an ok system for doing near enough everything!

Microsoft think they are soooooooo "it" by puting product activation on there products! there are so many ways around this!

Yeah

Getting Windows XP in the way explained is ILLEGAL! It is also against forum rules as mentioned above. I just wanted to add, that the "miracle" $ 200 PC does not have a graphics card and uses the MicroATX form factor...ahmmm.

it just isnt possible to built a custom $200 computer, i think u should buy a used one or save up some money and try this one

i personally used black friday deals and other varius deal places(ebay:) ) and i have almost all parts for a computer in under $200. this comp is a piece of crud, but at least it has great upgradeability.

i am using:
Proc=celeron m socket 478 1.2 ghz=$21 (ebay)
Memory=512meg stick of kingston value select=$15(soooo luckey, got with two weeks of mir together. total fluke)
Mobo=Shuttle av49pn=$34(ebay)
Heat sink=cheap no-name=$10
Case=Antec Super Lanboy=$30(black friday mir)
Power Supply=Master Power 350 watt=$5(black friday mir)
lookin for a ~$30-$40 graphics card, i have seen them
will use spare 20 gig hd untill i find a decent deal on 100 gigs plus for ~$30
Total: $175-$185

look through your sunday advertisements, they help a bundle. i love ebay also:) hopefully this is close enough to what you are looking for. most (all)of these deals are not every day run of the mill, but it is possible. i am proof

Yea, Thanks for the help. I have windows Xp takin care of.(my dad bough XP PRO corp. awhile back, i think was have like 4 installs left). I just remebered that i have an old PIII 866Mhz, 256MB, 250W PSU, Xbox case, from and old project where i put a computer in an xbox:D . So ill probly buy a hard drive, more ram, and a video card. If i was to get a 9600XT, 256mb more ram, would you think i could run Sims 2?
