Building a computer (help)

I have a price range of around 600-800 dollars and if i have to, 100 dollars higher than that....

This will be the first time I've actually built a computer although ive upgraded one numerous times before....

I am used to intel processors but a change of pace might be nice....

THe price should hopefully include the operating system...... not so much the monitor.... but the monitor i have now is pretty bad so...i dont know...hahaha

If possible it should last me a couple of years and i should be able to upgrade it so i can use it for a while...

I primarily use my current comps for schoolwork and some gaming on the side,, nothing really grahphics heavy..

yahhh if anyone could help me i'd seriously appreciate it
 
For that price you'd be generally looking into a mid-range C2D, 2GB of RAM, 320GB HDD, etc.

Decide whether or not you want a monitor, and how big, because that's a big chunk of the cost. And also what operating system? That can also be very expensive...
 
Well i can use an old chunky monitor or get a new one... so im not sure... than on the operating systm.... i have vista on a laptop.... and im not quite sure but like nothing is compatible with it.... and i havent branched out from windows apart from macs....

Well you have to give me an answer on the monitor and the os or i'm not configuring you one. Wishywashyness never got anybody anywhere. ;)

grand total $855 this is an approximation. I did not hand select any parts, this is for you do to. If you do not want to go with one of the new 45nm Intel CPUs then that will save you some money. You certainly do not have to spend one hundred on a case, but having a nice case is important to me. good luck

It is not plausible to make a system and have it be very future proof with such a small budget. I like the budget range of $1000 to $1200, that is my price range for a system that I am building this summer. Have fun!

I like newegg. I prefer their site over Tigerdirect any day. They usually have better prices and service, as well as ship pretty quickly.
 
if you are using an old CRT monitor I really suggest saving a little extra money and buy yourself a decent 17'' lcd like this ACER. It gets good reviews and it would be perfect for you

If you are considering the Antec 900, be aware it is one pain in the butt to work with. For a first time builder, I would tell you to take your time with that case. Do a search on the forums for that case and you will see the difficulty's people have had with it.

But if you do use it, and finally get it done, you will like the case. It looks nice and does a first rate job on cooling your parts.
 
than what case would u recomend for me to work with? is it a good deal to have the power supply already in the case whn bought>?

Not really, almost all of the PSU's that come with cases are worthless.

I am not saying the 900 is a bad choice, just that it's a pain to work with. The last system I built I used the 900. Would I use it again? Maybe. And since I am not currently building a system I have not really looked at any of the new cases. But I do like the Antec line of cases, just not a huge fan of the 900.
