So, I'm trying to build a mid range gaming computer, something with good performance, etc. I currently have a case that I love, ATX Mid tower In Win Griffin. I am looking at getting the ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 motherboard with AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition Callisto 3.3GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Desktop Processor HDZ560WFGMBOX and 4 gb of ddr3 ram. Not sure about a video card, and I'm looking at a 650+watt power supply. What to you think about this setup?

And yes I plan on overclocking and unlocking cores on the AMD processor.

All you had to say was Phenom II 560, haha...we would have known what you meant.

Do keep in mind that unlocking cores is not a definite thing...there's a significant chance that one or both of the locked cores is completely unusable. It's also fairly likely that they'll require extra voltage to be stable, and I wouldn't expect them to overclock as well as a regular quad. The general consensus with AMD chips is that you should buy it for what it is (in this case a dual core), and anything extra that you get is a bonus. If you still want to try it, then be my guest. If you're not cool with that, then an Athlon II x4 640 is the same price, and still plenty powerful for gaming.

The motherboard is a pretty good model. VRM cooling, 8-phase power and an 8-pin CPU power connector are a must for heavy overclocking, and it has all three.

What power supply are you looking at? It's very important to get a high quality one. The PSU is like the heart of your system...it's the most important component you've got. A bad one can and will damage the system in many different ways.
 
i know4 cores are better but i read the reviews and it said something about it now really being comparitive with the phenom x2 because of the l2 cache. what exactly would you guys be getting if you had to keep an am3 socket processor for under 150ish (give or take 50)
 
Really depends, the 560 overclocks easier/unlocked. If your not using more then 2 cores would be faster. Plus the chance of it unlocking.

The Athlon II X4 would be better in multi 3 or more threaded programs.

If the Phenom II 560 unlocks, its a better deal. If it doesn't, it depends on what your doing.
