building a gaming desktop

hello everyone, i started thinking a while ago of building my own computer, never done it before, so i went to newegg and looked and stuff with the most reviews, here's what i came up with, i wanted u guys opinion cause i'm afraid when i do put these together some componenets would conflict and get damaged, heres my list, any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! ;)

Looks to be a solid rig.

However:

- You're better off going with tri-channel memory on an X58 build...so 3x2GB or 3x4GB.

- Since you've gone with the 1200, definitely get this PSU:

It is one of the top units on the market in terms of stability...superior in every way to a TX750, as well as most any other PSU under $200. The only reason it's so cheap is that it only fits three specific Antec cases...one of them being the 1200.


You've listed two CPU coolers there...? I think you can do better than both of them for the price, though. Look here:

edit: Also, I think a Radeon HD6870 might be a better choice for the GPU. They're similar in terms of gaming power, but the 6870 is 151 watts versus the GTX 470's 215 watts. Your room (and case) will stay a lot cooler.

thanks Drenlin, thats some good advise, i was under the impression that ddr3 meant tri chanel, guess not, i also listed 2 fans becasue i dont want any over heating probelms but i realize now they're both cpu fans, so i need only one cpu and other normanl fans and thanks for the websites, so i'll do some list adjustment to my motherboard and ram.


edit: Great! the 6870 seems about the same and requires less power, the cooler the case the better!

hmm if you are gonna spend 1.5k i would suggest building it with 2 sets of 3X2GB memory at 1600mhz. The rest of the parts look good though i wouldnt have picked any differently myself.

you can wait for intel's 1155 socket to come out :D just a thought
 
thanks sunny, i'm still not sure if i'm gonna build it, still working on this list to make it the most solid and financialy efficient that i can, if i decide to build i'm gonna have to sell my dell xps 9100 which my brother helped me buy a couple of month ago, ever since i bought it i have been thinking of building my own instead of having to put all my reliance on the market ie dell, hp.. specs.

yah waiting for 1155 is a pretty good idea, since i'm in no hurry:)
 
hey joj my budget is not more than $1500, cheaper is always good but not in sacrifice of quality and staying future proof, i dont know much about amd other then that intel performs better and is easier to work with, any good suggestions u guys make i'm adjusting them on a text file i have, when its solid enough and when i feel enough courage i will buy and build, thank you!::)

yupyup. also if you are on newegg look for combos ;) they always let me get really good deals

In other news, I think it would indeed be worth waiting. Intel said that, supposedly, their new chips would directly compete with the socket 1366 ones for a much lower price. (i.e. their new ~$200 chip will compete with the current $300 chip)

The only thing they'll lack functionally is tri-channel RAM and a few PCIe slots, but RAM bandwidth is hardly ever a bottleneck and the extra PCIe slots would only be useful for more than two graphics cards in SLI/Xfire.

You could order the rest of it if you want...take advantage of all the Christmas sales and whatnot. No telling what prices will do after the new year, though.
