Ok i have had this compaq since 08' and i been wanting to tear it down and start from scratch. It holds micro atx mobo's an needs new everything (besides the cd/dvd drive), it also came with a 250 gig sata drive but i already have a 2 tb external hardrive. Also i have bout $550 to spend on it.... Any pointers?:D

If your sure the case buttons arent nonstandard, any micro ATX board will do, just get a good quality PSU like Seasonic or Corsair. Ram id stick with 1600 speed since your budget is limiting you to probably a locked i3 or a amd FX processor. Get a Asus or Gigabyte board, both are certainly good, i perfer nvidia gpu's for driver sake, but ati can be okay too, its a personal choice. I would highly recommend a SSD if you can spend on it...and be sure to include yourself a copy of windows 7 or 8 in the build sheet.

Well i did a lil bit of looking around and i found the right intel motherboard that wld fit..... Intel Dq77mk an also the zotac Geforce gt 640 video card, but not too sure if it will work the motherboard i found.... an i also decided to go with the i5 2nd gen processor if it would all work 2gether

May as well just keep your optical drives and your hard drives and build a new PC altogether.
