Building a new computer - any thoughts

Hi, I have some building knowledge, enough to get me into trouble. I have a real old computer I built at least 10 years ago and it is time to upgrade. I am looking at a budget around $250-300 for a new cpu/motherboard/memory. The rest I will recycle from my old one and upgrade when I get more $$. I am not really a gamer, just casual game playing. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

memory = good
cpu = very good
motherboard chipset = very very good (used it myself for a couple of months, overclocks like hell).
motherboard itself = dunno

I'd spend $20+ on a Q6600. Got mine and I cant be happier. I wouldnt suggest such a cheap mobo cause you usually get what you pay for. THe one I have OC's like a dream and cost $99 w/o shipping.

SPend the extra money and you wont be disappointed. BTW what kind of PSU are you using? The 10yr old PC prolly wont have enough power for an update IMO.

that processor only supports 1066FSB while the board supports 1333FSB an E8500 with 1333FSB overclocked will run circles around it in most applications unless your doing a million things at once. most programs don't even support 4 cores. Quad cores are just not worth the money right now. I agree the 650i is not that great but I have one in my computer and it works perfectly
