Building a Server Machine with big budget...

Good day all,
I hope this is in the right section...

Looking at building a Server machine for work, but we did not want to go with a Dell Server machine as the boss is not so fond of Dell.

What sort spec's should I be looking at?

Here is what we have so far...(keep in mind I'm not 100% up on the computer lingo ;) )

Watercooled Case (not to sure what brand...suggestions...)
Intel Xeon L5520 Processor (or Intel i7pro?)
16GB RAM, 1333MHz (not enough..)
WD Black 1TB hard drives (good choice I think)
RAID5
1000 Watt Redundant Power supply (brand?)
Montherboard I have no clue

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Wow! really? for a business server?
tell your boss to stop being such a baby and get a proper machine. it will be better in the long run as you will have support available. there are other companies that make servers: HP, Sun, even your local computer shop can put together a decent machine for you guys.

Is watercooling not good for server applications?

Actually, that is what we are trying to do...:D support the local guy instead of the corporate giant. We will have a local computer shop build us a machine.
I'm just trying to arm myself with info before I get them to build one as its been a while since I've spec'ed out a machine. ;)
Thanks for the reply,

i won't say it's not good, but it's definitely not the norm. you would be introducing more variables into the equation when you really want to minimize any possible downtime.

Thanks for the reply,

you got to tell the shop guy, or post here, what the role of the server is: file/print, domain controller, application, etc. and the workload expected: how many users, network bandwidth, etc. from this, he can recommend the hardware for it, a file server could do with a couple gigs of ram for a few users, while a database server would need heaps more.

also keep in mind how soon you plan to upgrade or replace this server, i.e. how fast do you expect your business to grow.
