Building Computer Troubles (Intel)

Using some parts we have laying around (hard drive, case, and power supply) I'm building a new Intel-based computer. I have a graphics card but using/not using it has made no difference so far.

These are the Mobo/CPU:

I've got it all set up but when I power up, nothing pops up on the monitor I've connected to. The monitor recognizes that it is attached to a computer as it says something along the lines of "check your computer connection".

Now, all fans are working, even the video card's when I do put it in. There are no weird noises, but simply nothing's showing up. Anybody have any ideas?

Did you use standoffs between the case and motherboard? Did you plug in the 4 pin cpu power cable?
