Building first comp for a while, what do I need?

I have built a couple of computers before but it has been at least 7 years since my last build. What I am looking to do with it is mild gaming, photo editing, and hd (1080p) video editing. My budget is around $650. As for brand (AMD or Intel) I will be fine with whichever one gives me the most bang for the buck, the same can be said for my gpu preference. As for OS I have a copy of windows 7 laying around, and exclude any kind of disc drive, keyboard, mouse, or monitor as I already have them. And for a hd I'd a prefer WD 1.5 tb or larger. I think that covers everything.

Have you got old hdd lying around? HDD become so expensive due to thailand flooding, not the best time to buy

And when you say you have a copy of windows 7 laying around, have you used the key on a system yet, and is it the OEM version or retail? If you've used it before and it is the OEM version, you need to buy a new key.

So 650 for just for everything in the tower but a DVD drive?

What do you mean by mild gaming? Here is what I picked out, its over budget, but I think its worth is its has upgrade-ability

You could go the AMD route, but I find Intel to offer a better performance outside of gaming.

I just play around with need for speed, resident evil, and flight simulator but I like to crank the graphics all the way up.

When I click the link you gave me it's not showing what you picked out, unfortunately I'm getting an empty cart.

only an external, which wouldn't do me any good..

It's a retail w/ a key. My cuz worked for hp so he stocked up while he was there.

You change an external into internal ( I did it with a 1TB WB Edition I had..)... The only bad part is if you have stuff saved on it :/

here ya go, a little over, but will be great, and this cpu can overclock like hell and possibly unlock to a x6 at 125w, otherwise will run super cool on 4 cores and do just as well in gaming

and this build is fully crossfire compatible, if you don't need/want crossfire (using 2 graphics cards together for more power) then i can select a cheaper motherboard and a cheaper power supply, and a better gpu

Right now I don't foresee a need for crossfire, so if you don't mind let me know what the other combination w/o crossfire could be.

Btw thanks for the build list

All 3 of those mobos will run AM3's Because those mobos are only AM3+ compatable

TRUE AM3+ mobos can only run the Bulldozer Processors, therefore wouldn't have a Phenom option.... It looks like this,
CPU Type: FX, Phenom II, Athlon II, Sempron 100 series
Other wise AM3+ ONLY mobos would say this,
CPU Type: FX

If money isn't an issue, and you plan on encoding video, you need a processor with a faster IPC, and the best bet is a 2600K. I am really not sure why anyone would buy an AMD solution at the medium to upper end these days when for only $80 more you can get the 2500K which will be better across the board.

The motherboard may be a bit more expensive too, but you could save some cash as you don't need a 750W PSU for a 6770 (very low powered GPU), and you could probably find a 5770 (same thing only cheaper) online.

My suggsetion

Z68 mobo with i5, 450W Corsair PSU, GTX560 (better for gaming) would proabbly come out about the same price and be significantly better.
